Welcome to J R Maxwell & Co, located in the heart of historic downtown Bath. Since 1979, J R Maxwell has been serving the midcoast area's finest American Fare. Our locally bought seafood includes Maine shrimp, scallops, and haddock, and don't forget our Maine Lobster served single, twin, baked stuffed, surf-n-turf, and shore dinners. The area's most extensive menu includes tender veal and chicken dishes, and of course the best Black Angus steaks anywhere. Our Roast Prime Rib of Beef on Fridays and Saturdays is known far and wide as the best there is. If you are looking for a deal, then the original 2-fer on Wednesday has been going strong for 30 years. Sunday through Thursday, 'Early Birds' from 4.30-6.00 receive 15% off. In Bath during the day? Then stop in for lunch from 11.30-2.30 'where the downtown meets for lunch'. Great sandwiches, black angus burgers, salads, and lobster and Crab rolls highlight the menu, including a variety of sides and your favorite beverage.
At J R Maxwell & Co., homemade is not just an advertising ploy. We try to make everything we can here in house. All of our salad dressings are made here, our soups are homemade, and our original chowder is famous up and down the seacoast. Our homemade sauces include Newberg, supreme, tartar, cocktail, and an Alfredo sauce to die for. Our seafood is fried in our famous beer batter and our French Onion Soup recipe is 40 years old. All our Black Angus steaks are cut here at Maxwells. We even cook our own potato chips and make our own cheese sticks and onion rings. Our homemade deserts include chocolate cake, Key Lime pie, frozen grasshopper and peanut butter pie, carrot cake, and Indian pudding. We are an independent restaurant, not a chain. When you come in, we want you to become a regular customer. Yes, we are the place where everybody knows your name.
Downstairs is the place where all the locals go, the Boat builders Pub. Featuring a big screen TV, pool tables, and the atmosphere of the local pub, it is definitely a 'must stop' if you want to experience the 'City of Ships'.
J R Maxwell &Co, 'the restaurant in downtown Bath', is open 7 days a week for great lunches and superb dinners. Visit our web page at www.jrmaxwells.com to view our daily specials as well as our menus. Follow us on Twitter at jrmaxwellco or Facebook at J.R. Maxwell. Quality food and service can be found everyday at J R Maxwells in downtown Bath, at 122 Front St. 443-2014

Loved the fried clams and clam chowder, best I've had in Maine!

Had a great dinner at the bar last Friday night after So You Think You Know Bath. If you ask the chef they can provide you a great selection of Gluten Free meals. They had a shrimp and scallop special that was over pasta, they put it over rice for Mari and it was delicious, and he checked the sauce for us to make sure it was Gluten Free too. I had my favorite Veal Picatta, always great! And the upstairs bar is becoming a great place to hang out.

Great meal. I LOVE the new doors and can't wait for them to be open to the street this Summer!

Fair!

Used to be the best around but the last few times have been disappointed. I ordered the fried clams the last time, they were clumped together with uncooked batter.

Not to Bad

My wife and I always have a great time going to dinner at Maxwells. The waitstaff always makes you feel like you are at home. Steaks and seafood are good, The Prime Rib on the weekends is to die for. Overall, probably the best restaurant in terms of value in Bath
